Beach or Sea bird.
Enlarged beak for digging into the wet sands and pulling up clams
Also the beak is reinforced and extremely hard to facilitate breaking open the Shell.
The bird will defend its hunt from humans. Many a broken arm or shattered shin can attest to that.
