FASA 365 Day 238, Meus Diabolus,
“Tommyknocker”, “Knockermen” “Mine Devil”
An 1879 Creature.
Fae that lives underground. Spirits of averice and trickery. Tricks miners and makes bargains with those trapped. If the miner accepts they become a wendigo, a corrupted being that hungers for flesh
in their normal shape they appear like small wizened dwarves in mining gear, however they generally use illusions to make them selves look and act like other members of a mining team, sometimes killing and replacing one to spread mischief, doubt and to lead miner into cave-ins
Artists Note: This was written by one of our 1879 Writers and handed off to me to visualize.
Well, you know me… I can’t resist a chance to draw a dwarf.
FASA 365 Day 237, Latum Os Tunde Cauda, (Wide mouth Slap tail) 15-20 ft.
3 sets of eyes, does not improve its vision. Rumor has it that one set is for seeing heat, Another for movement, and the last set for distance. Sounds confusing, yes?
The tail is spiked and flattened. it cuts like a saw blade, flattens or smacks for distance.
Lives in barren dusty terrain. Again, the tail, slaps the ground creating dust clouds the creature uses to hide from predators and blind its prey.
FASA 365 Day 236, Caelum Vacca, (Sky Cow) 6-8ft. Herbivore.
More so kin to the bat and bird. but the weight, size, and demeanor have marked it as heifer.
Artists note: I wonder, if you feed it, leash it, and fly it over fields… wouldn’t that make fertilizing a simpler chore?
Proper head and rain gear would be required.
FASA 365 Day 235 Glechoma Hederacea (Creeping Ivy) a Ground Elder or Spirit of Weeds.
One day the Forest Spirits had a meeting. All of the usual attendees were there. Tree Spirits, Flower Spirits, Wild life and bug spirits, even the Creek and Lake Spirits were there.
Surveying the invited, the Oak Spirit, raised its limbs and brought the meeting to order. Just as the Oak was about to speak.
“Excuse me!” a voice came from just beyond the hedges.
“I know you didn’t want me here, after all, who wants weeds in their garden. But as usual, I failed to get my invitation to your little get together.” The Ground elder continued.
“But you know, I am a part of this forest too?” The last part had the tone of a question; but was definitely a statement.
“I have just as much claim and right to be part of this meeting as any of you.” The angry looking weed spirit sank into the ground around the hedges, and then reappearing, gathering themself taller and higher, overtaking center stage.
“Look out.” the Sunflower Spirit whispered to the Elm.
“They’re in a mood to rant.” returned the Elm.
The Ivy turned and glared. “I have roots, in the forests, same as you Elm! And I can overtake anyone of you, if I please.” Pausing for dramatic effect, she surveyed the invited.
“You think just because you’re pretty… I have flowers and blooms too ya’ know…” pausing again, grasping for words, tendrils reaching out and grasping at the other spirits. Clinging. Entwining.
“That’ll be enough of that, Hederacea.” said the Oak. Using Ivy’s proper name to get their attention and convey the seriousness of the Oak’s meaning.
“Fine.” Ivy relented. Releasing the Spirits from the choking grasp, and taking a prominent place in the center of everything.
“If I may continue?” throwing a stern glance at Ivy.
Waving it off, Ivy nodded.
Artists note: Ok y’all, what happens next?
FASA 365 Day 234, Maledictus Gryllidae Scorpius, (Cursed Cricket Scorpion) 2-3ft Omnivore.
Swarming over livestock, and fields, and humans; no matter they eat it all. And if not eaten immediately, they harvest what they catch; dragging it back to the nest and sealing it in wax cocoons to preserve and eat later.
Fortunately, they only wake from their lairs once every seven years. But when they do; smart folks leave and come back later.
Artists note: Can you tell how much I hate push-ups?
