FASA 365 Day 184, Vaga Salix (Wandering Willow), Wood Nymph… sort of. Forest or Tree Spirit, Fae.
What happens to a neglected Wood Nymph. They wither. Hunted by their own kind, if captured they are forced to “take root” and become a tree, A Weeping Willow Tree. Weeping because they are loved, no more.
Desparate to escape their fate, they roam the forest franticly approaching, and terrifying hapless travelers.
All in the hopes of finding someone, ANYONE, to love them and restore their former beauty.
FASA 365 Day 183, Avem Praedae Rex, (Regal or Caped Monarch Hawk), 3-4 ft, 6-8 ft wingspan. Bird of Prey.
Like birds of prey, the Caped Monarch hunts from great heights. Relying on its excellent eyesight, speed, and accuracy. Landing upon its prey, digging its 6 inch talons deep into the flesh of the hunt.
Then, this conceited fellow; assured that the victim is incapacitated, but alive, steps back.
Puffing up its chest, spreading out and draping its wings around itself like a cape; The Monarch slowly circles the hunt. Lording itself over its prey. Moving closer and closer in until it envelopes the hunt under its wings. Then, and only then, it feeds.
Artists note: HALFWAY DAY!!! Today marks the midway point of the project. 183 more to do. You may ask…. “Doesn’t that add up to 366?” Indeed. It’s a leap year. So, thanks to my art director (my wife) y’all get a bonus beast. She say’s “Your welcome.”
FASA 365 Day 182, Draco Orientem Minor, Small Asian Dragon. 6-12 inches. Omnivore, Fire breather, small line of razor sharp teeth.
Easily Domesticated. Loving cuddlers. Loyal. The demeanor of a small lap dog.
Artists Note: I started with a triangle shape, and stared at it for an hour and a half. I placed the eyes… and the tiny mouth… and the rest just fell into place. Thats the great part of what I do. Makin somethin’ outta nothin.
FASA 365 Day 180, Bastet, Egyptian Cat Goddess,
Depicted in FASA’s Graphic Novel, Ha’Penny Pie, The Case Of The Felonious Feline Filcher, Bastet is a benevolent side character. Helping, Detective Henry Hydesworth and his stalwart sidekick Smedley, solve the mystery of Londons disappearing feline population. Never imagining the nefarious reasons for their abduction.
Bastet is probably the best-known feline goddess from Egypt. Legend has it, she combines both nurturing and violent qualities, her shielding and motherly aspects typically are emphasized.
FASA 365 Day 179, Dragon Hatchlings. 2-3 ft. at hatching. Born hungry.
Imagine, if you will, 2 amateur adventurers and their guide. The adventures look down at the hatchings and start licking their lips. The guide is looking up.
GUIDE: We should go. NOW!
ADVENTURER 1: Are you kidding?
ADVENTURER 2: If killing the hatchlings bothers you so much, we’ll just take the third egg.
ADVENTURER 1 and 2 (look at each other, and in unison)
DRAGON EGG OMELETTES!!!
GUIDE: (Still looking up) We REALLY need to leave.
ADVENTURER 1 and 2: – but, WHY?
GUIDE: (slowly pointing upwards) Because. Where there’s eggs, and hatchlings, there’s ALWAYS…(gulp) a mother.
Artists Note: Ok guys… what happens next?
