FASA 365 Day 263, Melis Vespertilio, (Badger Bat). 6-7ft, Carnivore.
Does NOT fly… although; it is incredibly nimble, agile, light and fast. It runs across the barren lands to speeds upwards to 50-60mph.
Having selected its prey from over a mile away, it rips across a victim and guts it often before the sound of its foot fall is even heard.
Solitary creature, it lives underground only surfacing at night, to hunt.
Fortunately it only hunts once every 7 days. Then it sleeps for 2.
Makes changes to its home, Or chooses a new one for 3. The other 2 days are spent finding a mate and breeding if possible. After that it’s back to feeding.
FASA 365 Day 262, Ambulans Polypus, Walking Octopus
Artists note: I have drawn spine sporting Octopus before. So, when I started thinking of this one… I really didnt want to. Its been done… but, it wouldnt get outta my head. So I started thinking of how would it sound walking toward you?
Close your eyes and think back to the last time you heard multiple sets of flip flops… WET flip flops coming down a hallway… and thats how THIS guy is different. That and the exposed brain matter.
FASA 365 Day 261, Demonic Doll or Possessed Puppet.
For 1879
Evil Demonic Spirit rumored to have taken residence in Childrens’s Puppet Theatre, “Punch” Puppet.
Excerpt from London Times article:
“Nobody notice a difference. A you know, Punch and Judy can be quite violent at times. The Children love them so.”
One of the young audience members, seated in front of the puppet stand said he felt wetness beneath him. Fearing that he had soiled himself from laughter he opted to not draw attention and possibly miss the rest of the show, he ignored it and said nothing.
Another child pointed out the puddle of blood escaping from beneath the puppet shows curtained booth. Laughing the whole time, he thought it was part of the show.
Finally, local constabulary investigated. Whereby the puppet was quoted,
“If the Brat hadn’t seen the puddle,
nobody would have had a hunch.
When the copper found the master’s body,
he promptly lost his lunch.”
The Puppet then literally flew from the scene.
Scotland Yard is now confiscating all “in service” Punch Puppets in hopes of finding the paranormal puppet. Minus a prompting performer up his skirt.
FASA 365 Day 260 Pachyproboscis Spheniscidae, (Elephant Snout Penguin) 3-5ft. Flightless Waterfowl.
The Beak is very strong, able to crush clam shells and crustaceans much like a lobster claw.
Prodigious Snorers; there beaks resonate the vibrations in their larynx to devastating decibels. BUT, only when they sleep.
In the egg hatching seasons the group or ‘rookerie’ will sleep in shifts. Some awake to keep watch, the others snoring loudly to scare away unfamiliar predators.
Artists Note: Today I took inspiration from my wife… you see I got NO sleep last night…. you do the math.
FASA 365 Day 259, Imperitoris Bombus Affinis, (Emperor Bumble Bee). 10-12 Inches.
For 1879
It would seem that the common “bumblebee” is actually fae, and therefore subject to the effects of Magic returning to the world; or ‘looking glass fever’.
Growing in size and intelligence. Overtaking multiple hives and bee species. Forming “empires” across the landscape. Farmers fear an imminent Bee revolution.
Artists note: My sister in law was looking through the 365 volumes and questioned why there were not Bumble Bees… I don’t think she would be prepared for these guys.
